Toastmasters changing the future

Without changing one's mind about public speaking, one would never be able to face it.

Earlier in September the Florida Toastmasters Club chose to acknowledge their power to change with thought-provoking words.

Toastmaster Tim Knights used one of his favourite quotes from playwright George Bernard Shaw to describe the decision, “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

He hosted the meeting’s educational session on managing the club’s accounts and budget.

Tebogo Legodi broke the ice with her speech, ‘Travel at first sight’, which took listeners back a few years to when her mother put her on a bus at Park Station in Johannesburg.

Robert de Kramer took listeners on an unforgettable musical journey with his speech, ‘All about that bass’, turning back time to when rock stars were all the rage. The club heard his version of Freddie Mercury’s ever-popular Bohemian Rhapsody.

During the table topics session where speakers respond to a question or topic cue Robert de Kramer gave the best off-the-cuff speech on his ‘Dear old Dutch’, an affectionate term for a wife.

The club also congratulated Clive Goodman for attaining first position at the Area Humourous Speech Contest at the end of August. He will compete in the division contest this Saturday.

Join the Florida Toastmasters for a life-changing experience every first and third Tuesday of the month at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre, Ontdekkers Road.
