Power in Witpoortjie still a hassle

Parts of Witpoortjie without power, no explanation about cause given.

Residents are puzzled and frustrated with blackouts in parts of Witpoortjie over the weekend and this morning (Monday 7 September).

The whole suburb is not affected but the Record received various reports of outages in Gregor, Haynes and Van der Vyfer Streets. Some residents took to twitter to report the issue, even furnishing @CityPowerJhb with their reference numbers. Some report they have been without electricity since Sunday afternoon 1pm.

The Record checked these reference numbers with City Power’s website. According to the fault logging page, CPWEB 821213 was reportedly “resolved” and has been grouped with a similar reference number, CPWEB 821414, which was also “resolved”. On the second reference number, City Power wrote “MV out call operators and restored power”, yet residents are still without power.

CPWEB 821924, one of the latest reference numbers, remains open.

The Record received a rude response when contacting City Power operations manager Noel Maso, who simply said “technicians are tending to it” and “I don’t know what the cause is” before he put the phone down.

Ward 71 councillor Gert Niemand said he had also been inundated with calls regarding the outage. According to his communications with City Power officials, the power should be restored by this afternoon.

The cause of the outage remains unclear. The Record is still investigating. Send your reference number and street name to mathildem@caxton.co.za
