HONEYDEW – Forty white stinkwood trees are planted to celebrate Arbor Day and the opening of the new Fisherman's Park.

About 40 white stinkwood trees were planted in an open field, close to Johan Road in Honeydew on 4 September to celebrate Arbor Day.

Landscaper Kevin Joubert explained that the idea was to plant trees and also highlight the upcoming opening of Fisherman’s Park.

This park will have a dam, indigenous gardens, a children’s play area, a wedding venue, a restaurant, picnic areas, clay ovens, braai facilities and a running trail.

According to Joubert, these facilities will be available for public use.

Director and property owner and founder of the Fisherman’s Village, Linda Patterson said the project will be completed by the end of 2017.

Patterson said she gave up her land after she realised the need for recreational space for residents.

Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht expressed his gratitude and said the park will be beneficial to the community as most people have a small living space.

He added that the park is of fundamental importance to residents.
