Woolworths and MySchool celebrate teachers

JOBURG – Woolworths launches Teacher’s Day 2015 competition.

Woolworths  Educational Programmes and MySchool have launched the 2015 Teacher’s Day competition. All South African pupils have been invited to identify the teachers who have made a difference in their lives, so they can be recognised. This annual event promotes Unesco’s World Teacher’s Day on 5 October and involves South African children to highlight the vital status and role of teachers in society.

Every pupil in South Africa can enter the competition by writing a short motivation about the teacher who has made an impact on their lives by 10 September. In the first stage of the competition, two compelling entries from each province, in both the primary and high school categories, will be selected by a panel of independent judges. The judges will then select four regional high school and four regional primary school finalists. In the second stage of the competition, the eight selected teachers will attend an event in October to meet the judges. Finally, an external auditor will select the first, second and third place winners.

The prizes are designed to express gratitude for the teachers who have had an outstanding impact on their pupils. The eight finalist teachers will win a laptop each, with the first, second and third place winners taking home Woolworths’ giftcards to the value of R50 000, R20 000 and R10 000 respectively. The remaining five finalists will each be awarded a R1 000 Woolworths’ giftcard. There are prizes for the eight pupils and their schools as well – each school will be awarded R5 000 cash and each child be able to enjoy a shopping spree at Woolworths to the value of R5 000.
