R47 000 drug bust: three suspects still not arrested

Police satisfied that they will stay at address.

Three alleged drug dealers who were recently caught red handed with what is believed to be R47 000’s worth of drugs, are still roaming the streets of Florida free as birds.

Although the drugs were found in their presence in their apartment they were not charged, detained, or appeared in a court and were let of free without bail or any conditions. The police’s explanation for this was that the public prosecutor send back the docket for further investigation. Currently the case is not on the court roll and the three suspected drug dealers have been walking free since the drug bust on 11 August. Since 13 August various attempts to find out what the status of the case was and whether the suspects have been rearrested, has been fruitless.

Today though Florida Police spokesperson Lydia Dikholomelo said the investigating officer informed her the drugs were at the forensic laboratories and the outcome of the results could take as long as two months.

The Record wanted to know how the police were insuring the suspects do not flee, to which Dikholomelo replied ‘the police were satisfied the suspects would stay at the address in question’.
