GALLERY: School celebrates Spring Day creatively

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Pupils decorate their classrooms for prizes on Spring Day.

Arrows of Destiny Christian Academy and Agapeland Nursery School celebrated Spring Day with their annual spring class competition on 1 September at the school in Weltevreden Park.

Vice principal Joy de Saint Pern said the children and teachers had to decorate their classes with hand-made artwork according to any chosen theme.

“The children with the best decorated class won a basket of sweets to share and the teacher a small gift,” said de Saint Pern.

Some of the themes included Into the Night Garden, Under the Sea; Hawaii and Prehistoric Spring.

The judges were students from the South West Gauteng College.

The Grade 1 class won in the Foundation Phase (grades 1–3) with their hand-carved decorations for the theme ‘Spring’.

The winners of the Senior Phase (grades 4 –12) was the Grade 4 – 6 class, who won with the theme ‘Prehistoric Spring’, and the Eagles class won in the nursery school with the theme ‘In the night garden’.

Principal Jeanette Porter said the competition has been running for the last 30 years and creates a great deal of excitement yearly, not only for the children but also the teachers and parents.

“The competition is held to celebrate spring but mostly to show the creativity of the children,” said Porter.
