5 tips to prevent accidental overdose

Accidental overdoses can happen to anyone at any time.

Especially when your doctor prescribed you with new medication that you have not used before.

In honour of National Drug Overdose Awareness Day, here a useful tips to prevent you or a loved one from accidental overdose:

1. Always read the label on your medicine bottle before you use it.

2. Consult with your doctor if your newly prescribed medication will not interfere with your lifestyle. If you drink alcohol or take supplements, you need to know if it will not affect you.

3. Know the difference between a tablespoon and a teaspoon.

4. Use a child-resistant cap and relock the cap after each use.

5. Use the right amount of medicine prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and directions vary amongst people with different ages. Always use the right strength and follow the directions exactly.
