Help aspiring vet reach his dream

Because of a lack of money, he might not be able to afford his tuition fees.

Discovery — If Justin Hogan, an aspiring veterinary could be any animal in the world, it would be a big cat, horse or a rhino.

These choices are simply because the 21-year-old University of Pretoria student is intrigued by cats, finds horses intelligent and is passionate about rhinos.

The difference between him and these animals is Justin has had many disappointments from student funds.

After having his application for a bursary declined last year, Justin was left discouraged and has battled to pay for his studies.

This has led to him starting a Facebook page, 1000 R100, and with the help with donations from the community, he has accumulated R22 578 out of R91 447.60 which is the cost of his school fees for this year.

“I cannot explain how generous the community has been and it is humbling to know there are people out there with good hearts. It makes me feel so supported to know people believe in my dream,” said Justin.

“As a child my dream was always to become a veterinarian and the fact that I am halfway to reaching my dream feels amazing.” Justin said.

Justin has volunteered at various animal shelters in the area and at farms which started when he was still in high school.

He is in his third year studying towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.

He says he is thankful to God, his family and the community who have supported him thus far.
