Fleurhof creche in dire straits

It has been a tough week for Radiant pre-school after their premises caught fire.

The school was using the Fluerhof Recreational Centre which was up in flames on Monday morning while principal Delphene Feldman was still inside with a few children.

Although they managed to get out of the building unscathed, the aftermath has turned the school’s life upside down.

They had to temporarily move the children to Feldman’s home and are struggling to find other premises.

One of the teachers, Lizzy Gordon said they were having a tough time as they lost everything in the fire.

“It is like a funeral at the moment. We watched our very livelihood burning and we lost reading materials, toys, computers and mattresses. Delphene lost her phone, money and bag which had essentials such as her cards and I.D documents,” she said.

The teacher fears if they don’t find new premises to use, the children will be split up.

The school which operates as a Non-profit Organisation (NPO) was established in 2010.

It started with five children and grew to accommodate more than 60 children from three months to fiver-years old.

The school is urging the community to donate anything they can to assist so the children can return to normal teaching.

“We need cots, beds, educational toys, colouring books, crayons and tables and chairs. However, our most important need is to find premises to use.
