WATCH: suspected car thief drives into Supa Quick

CONSTANTIA KLOOF – Watch CCTV video where Supa Quick workers arrest the alleged vehicle thief.

A suspect (27) who tried to steal a courier vehicle on 24 August is behind bars.

Police arrested him after he drove straight into the Supa Quick Shop in Constantia Kloof, allegedly with his victim inside. The latter

swiftly got off and ran inside the shop’s toilet to hide.

According to the shop manager Eben Compaan, the incident occurred suddenly and unexpectedly.

“The man locked himself inside the car after he failed to get out of the garage,” said Compaan.

He further explained that it was then that workers at the shop suspected that there was foul play.

Compaan indicated that members of his staff then chased him while he tried to flee, handcuffed him and called the police who then arrested him.

“It was a team effort. His two buddies came to the shop, driving an Audi but police were already on the scene,” he concluded.

Eyewitness Solly Haiss said the suspect tried to jump off the fence but realised that he couldn’t make it and turned back.

“We then realised that this person was a criminal trying to take the car,” said Haiss.

Florida Police spokesperson Captain Mtila-Dikomela said the suspect was detained at Roodepoort Police Station.

“We are investigating an incident of attempted theft of motor vehicle,” she said.
