House burglaries remain high in Florida

Take these precautionary measures.

The number of house burglaries have fluctuated over the past week or two in the Florida area according to Caleb Finn from the On Florida Forum.

Finn said people are at work during the day making it easier for criminals to break in.

He gives the following house burglary prevention tips for residents:

• Lock all doors and gates so that you can hear when suspects are entering the premises, this will also slow them down.

• Windows should be closed and preferably should have burglar bars.

• An alarm system will not stop a suspect from breaking into your home but it will limit the amount of time they can spend in your home and it will therefore limit your loss.

• According to Finn, criminals prefer to steal small items as it is easier to run away with. Lock away all electronic items.

• Test alarm systems with your security provider at least once a month.

• Activate your alarm whenever you go out regardless of the time you will spend outside.

Last but not least please continue to report suspicious activity and crimes in progress as well as crimes that have occurred to your security provider and Florida Police.
