ROPF announces new plans

Forum plans conference for September.

The Roodepoort Older Persons’ Forum (ROPF) recently chose their new committee as well as announced their plans for the immediate future.

The forum which recently received their non-profit organisation (NPO) number are empowered by the government to see that the law surrounding the elderly are applied. It operates in Region C and looks after the needs and challenges of the elderly whether in government institutions or private as well as people living in their own homes.

The elderly can approach the ROPF about their municipal problems, problems in their retirement village, about their contracts with these institutions as well as medical care. According to the forum the latter is of utmost importance. They also have to make sure these people receive at least on nutritious meal a day.

According to Willie van der Schyf there is concern over the impoverishment of the aged. “We ask how can we best apply the resources available to us in the most effective way. Also how we can communicate these problems to every level of government,” said Van der Schyf.

The forum aims to hold a conference in September where all role players who works with the elderly can table their challenges. The theme of the conference will be “The impoverishment of our aged”.
