Roodepoort Theatre takes hands with Tshepang

Vegetable gardens and a new arts and culture festival to benefit local orphanage programme.

Roodepoort Theatre’s management and councillor Carl Mann recently took hands and united to benefit Tshepang Orphanage Programme in Princess.

The first step of their work together includes vegetable gardens on the theatre’s grounds which will be completed by the end of the week (28 August).

On Friday 14 August Mann invited the Record along to the site where the gardens are being prepared, a kiddies playground will be put up, landscaping and irrigation will be done and lighting will be upgraded.

According to the theatre’s general manager Pritheven Pillay, expenditure on the project will amount to about R123 000 once the work is completed. He took a stroll through the area with Mann and four young and enthusiastic Tshepang representatives.

According to one, Thando Mbuthuma, they initially approached Mann to assist them in organising an arts and culture festival at the theatre. The idea was brought to Pillay who said he realised more could be done to benefit the underprivileged community.

Mbuthuma said the arts and culture festival idea was also approved and should be up and running in the next couple of months. It will include performances and a flea market in the gardens. For more information about the Tshepang Orphanage Programme contact Susan Rammekwa on 083 456 6993.
