End in sight for school debacle – or not?

Community leaders could not be reached for comment this morning.

Stakeholders in the Roodepoort Primary debacle are holding their breaths that the impasse will be resolved by Saturday morning.

Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Education Panyaza Lesufi held a meeting last night with all the roll players at the Civic Centre where he announced a 12 member mediation team consisting of among others United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef)’s Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Reverend Paul Verryn, Reverend Frank Chikane, Reverend Gift Moerane (who will lead the team) and Reverend Molefe Tsele.

Tsele told the attendees “the text of the mediation process will be to resolve the impasse and explore various compromises.”

It was also announced by Lesufi that he wants the team’s report by Saturday morning of which the findings will be reported back to the community on Sunday.

“We are accountable to the parents of these children because they are the affected ones,” said Lesufi.
