Zone 5 Alliance Summit

Another issue Mnqibisa tackled in the summit is violent crime affecting the Roodepoort community.

With an eye on next year’s local government elections, the Zone 5 alliance held a meeting at the Civic Centre in Florida this weekend.

The ANC along with the South African Communist Party (SACP), Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), Mkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKVA) representatives and South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) discussed issues that affect their communities and how to be a more unified alliance ahead of next year’s crucial elections.

With a thought on the current issues surrounding Roodepoort Primary School, ANC Zonal chairperson Phosane Mnqibisa said other issues to be discussed include loadshedding, youth unemployment and service delivery.

“We as an alliance are guided by the freedom charter and we strive for social-cohesion and a non-racial society. We are unequivocally condemning the issues at Roodepoort Primary School as they go against what we believe in. We cannot delay the future of our children because of politics no matter what political party is involved. We must unite,” said.

“Crime is a big problem especially in the CBD. We have to work with the local law enforcement in partnership with sector policing. We must feel safe in our neighbourhoods. We must also commend Roodepoort police station commander Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso for the good work she has been doing,” he said.
