Latter Day Saints spends day at creche

The community based initiative focuses on organisations within Roodepoort who need help.

Armed with overalls, paintbrushes, chisels and power tools, members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visited Arise and Shine Daycare this weekend.

Every year in August, the project called Mormon Helping Hands, chooses a different charity to help and this year the daycare was the recipient.

Angela Simon from the church said they communicated with all the different councillors in the area to find a suitable place to serve and help.

“This year our theme is Joining with Government and Councillor Marian Kemp recommened the daycare. We did our investigations and found they are in need of our help. We wanted to provide service and we brought our members to come and clean the carpets, paint the walls, replace the windows with help from National Auto Glass and Anytime TV repairs donated a television,” she said.

The daycare’s owner Jeanette Khumalo was ecstatic and could not believe that more help arrived for her daycare.

“When it rains it pours. God has opened the doors for our daycare because we have been helped. This is why you have to always humble yourself because you never know who may help you. I don’t know these people yet they came here to help us,” she said.
