Breaking News: Police shoot at crowd outside school

Crowd claims no provocation.

At about 7.45am this morning police opened fire shooting rubber bullets at a crowd of parents and community members outside Roodepoort Primary.

Although there are conflicting versions of what happened, those the Record spoke to, which included some of the injured, claim there were no provocation on the side of the crowd.

Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo though said the protesters first blocked the buses which were suppose to transport the pupils to their temporary school and then tried to break open the gates. It was then that a cadet commander gave the order to open fire.

According to ER24 five people were hit but it could not be confirmed. Three were taken to hospital while the rest were treated on the scene. It is also alleged that a child was hit.

Some parents said that due to shock their children ran away and could not be found.
