Woman critical after taxi accident

More passengers sustain moderate injuries.

A woman was critically injured during a crash on Ontdekkers Road in Newlands this morning.

Netcare 911 paramedics, its rescue unit and other services arrived at the scene and found that a motor vehicle and minibus were involved in a crash. The vehicle came to a standstill against a pole on two wheels on its side. The minibus overturned and came to a standstill on its side.

The rescue officers had to make use of stabilisers to ensure the vehicle is stable enough to remove the female driver from the vehicle.

Upon assessment of the female driver of the motor vehicle, paramedics found that the woman had sustained critical injuries during the crash. The injured woman was treated on the scene and transported to hospital for the urgent medical care and treatment that she required, under the care of an advanced life support paramedic.

A few commuters travelling in the minibus sustained minor injuries during the accident and were treated on the scene before they were transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
