Update: Tensions simmer ahead of Premier’s visit

"We are ready for them," says community leader.

While a marquee tent is being set up at Roodepoort Primary for Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s visit, surrounding communities are making their own preparations.

A community leader from Matholliesville told the Record at about noon they were mobilising the surrounding communities in all earnestness and would be leaving for Davidsonville at 4pm. In the meanwhile a prominent Davidsonville community leader said “They can gather their people from Cape Town if they want. We are ready for them.”

A representative from a non-profit organisation based in Durban Deep also received a call last night from a member of the community in which the person told her “tomorrow (today) is not going to be pleasant. The black community has had enough of the Davidsonville community”.

According to reports the police has been securing the area surrounding Roodepoort Primary since early today.
