DA leader visits local college

After his speech, Maimane gave a chance to his colleagues to say a few words before answering a few questions from the students.

DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane stopped by at the South West Gauteng Technical and Vocational Education and Training College yesterday.

He was flanked by DA shadow minister of Labour Ian Ollis, shadow minister for Trade and Industry Geordin Hill Lewis and shadow minister for Finance David Maynier.

Standing outside the parking lot where students would see him as they entered the college, Maimane addressed a wide range of issues such as job creation, Eskom and industrial strikes which hamper economic growth.

“Today is an important day for us because students leaving university cannot find employment. We can sit in parliament and debate Nkandla and all other problems but the greatest tragedy facing this nation is the high level of unemployment,” he said.

Maimane also detailed a five point plan to stimulate the economy such as solving the energy crisis by creating a breaking the monopoly stronghold of Eskom and commit R500 million from the Department of Trade and Industry to purchase industrial sized generators so factories will remain open during loadshedding.

Sector specific interventions in areas such as tourism and mining.

To support small, medium and micro-sized enterprises, and to reform the labour market to protect workers rights.

The last point in his plan is policy certainty he said at the heart of the country’s policy uncertainty lies the ideological competition and confusion in the Tripartite Alliance.
