Update: Shot pensioner passes away

Body too frail to fight pneumonia.

The 76-year-old pensioner, Loekie Trichardt who was shot while trying to protect his wife during an armed house robbery on 23 July, has passed away early Saturday morning.

Trichardt who was hospitalised at Netcare Millpark Hospital underwent two operations but after a third emergency operation succumbed to pneumonia due to the frailty of his health, according to a neighbour.

Trichardt returned fire after being shot, and killed one of the house robbers.

The memorial service will take place at 11am on Friday at the Gereformeerde Kerk Ontdekkers in Phillips Street.

His family could not be reached for comment.
