MTN celebrates Women’s Day in style

RUIMSIG - Women leadership in government urged other women to work together and build the nation, during the Women's Day celebration in Oakfield Farm.

MTN Foundation celebrated women’s month by bringing women who are in leadership in government departments closer to the ordinary women on 7 August.

“As part of celebrating the month, our foundation saw a need in sharing the powerful knowledge with other women on the ground,” said the MTN’s managing director Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, CEO of Seshego Hospital Kholofelo

Moabelo and the CEO of Spes Bona College Amanda Matta.

Mtunzi-Hairwadzi added: “As we celebrate this day, we would like to acknowledge that a lot has been done so far to

uplift women. But we still have a lot to do as women in the drivers’ seats. My advice to all women out is, do not look down to yourself. Stand up and fight for what you believe in.”

She said their achievement in the first year of a bold digital era in development, is based on their mutual conviction that technology

offers unprecedented possibilities for community empowerment.

Deputy Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams encouraged the women to work hard together as groups.

“I believe in team work because I am a people’s person. You need to surround yourself with people and always learn to understand your area of expertise, face your challenges. Do not forget to always empower yourself, update your knowledge to remain relevant at all times,” she said.

Hospital CEO, Moabelo said she was 18-year-old when she became a nurse, but she dedicated herself to studying to improved her life. “I am today a CEO and I am happy because I am making difference in people’s lives,” she said.

College CEO, Matta said she started as the only female teacher at her school but because she never underestimated herself, she is

still standing.

“I believe we need to keep on empowering ourselves and not forgetting our youth so they know where they are going. They need to be taught to go out and show what they are made off. We have got powers to make that happen,” she said.
