Patricia Theledi will be jetting off to Brazil next week to participate in the Junior World Wrestling Championships.

The 18-year-old Ruiter Wrestling Club member, who will be representing South Africa, qualified for the championships by winning a bronze medal at the recent African Continental Championships.

“I’m feeling a bit stressed because I will be competing against wrestlers from other countries around the world. But I’m also excited as this is an amazing opportunity to show off my skills on the world stage,” said Patricia.

Patricia has been preparing for the competition by taking part in a national camp every weekend and training with her club during the week.

“I’ve been jogging and working out at the gym. I also have to watch my weight after the flight to Brazil because that tends to mess with the body,” she said.

The South African Wrestling Federation and St Laurence’s Children’s Haven which Patricia is a part of will be paying for her travelling costs.

“Winning at the championships will be the biggest achievement of my life, that is why we train and compete,” said Patricia.
