Maragon hosts own ‘Wimbledon’

School hopes to make event a fixture.

While Wimbledon was grabbing the attention of many tennis fans the past holidays, Maragon had its own taste of the Wimbledon festivities with many upcoming stars taking to the courts.

From the 25 to 27 June, Mickey and Darren Styles Tennis Coaching Academy hosted its first ever holiday tennis tournament at Maragon. The tournament also involved learners from neighbouring schools in the West Rand area which made for a dynamic and competitive environment for the school’s tennis stars.

Learners from both the Foundation Phase (Grade one to three) and Intern Phase (Grade four to seven) were involved. Skills were competitively tested in the round robin tournament which entertained spectators with magnificent tennis. A coaching clinic was available for those still honing their skills and spot prizes were awarded daily which made for a fun and exciting experience for each player involved.

“The tournament was a resounding success, players not only developed their skills and knowledge of the game but also made new friends and grew their love and passion for tennis”, said Liza Vince, tennis co-ordinator at Maragon.
