The DA will get the basics right

Marxist centralism has failed throughout the world.

Cllr Dave Dewes writes:

Firstly, to run a Mega City as massive as Johannesburg, is extremely complex, especially when you look at the multitude of services that a municipality provides. Therefore, the DA has always propagated that a Mega City is not conducive to high level of service delivery. When we take over governance in Johannesburg, we will create sub councils as we have done in the City of Cape Town. Considerable powers will be devolved to Regions to act autonomously, without central interference. This will result in indisputable evidence of improved service delivery. A typical example is the current grossly inefficient call centre, that has to manage calls coming in from the entire Johannesburg, causing massive delays and high customer frustration. How much more efficient will a dedicated Region C call centre function?

Further compounding factors are that the current regions are completely ineffective because they have no authorative power to implement decision making. Secondly, I believe, the DA will move away from performance bonuses that are mere box ticking exercises and focus more on how managers and staff can promote evidence based  turnaround. This will address the human need for individual gratification and rather promotes a more sustainable model of a work ethic that embraces the philosophy ‘it is a privilege to be of service to so many people”.

Lastly, the DA will not tolerate corruption or officials with a pathetic work ethic. Many officials will have to shape up or ship out. This will combat the fact that certain officials believe that they are entrenched regardless of how badly they may perform. The DA will also effectively manage service providers and address the blatant evidence of corruption and the inflating of tender prices. This will not only provide massive savings but will also ensure that the DA will do more with less.
