There shall be shelter and security

Very soon the transit area will be electrified

Phosane Mngqibise, Zonal Chairperson writes:

20 years into democracy, the ANC lead government is living up to the ideals of its founding document, the Freedom Charter that, “the people shall govern there shall be shelter and security”. After almost 15 years of living in squalor conditions, the residents of Princess informal settlement, have finally have their dreams come through.

The Department of Human Settlements and the City of Johannesburg have launched one of the biggest infrastructural project valued at R1 billion on 6 July. This will indeed change families lives for ever because the project will cater for all strata in the community, such as those those qualify for RDP houses, low earning people that do not qualify for RDP houses and other government housing subsidies, the working class and those that can afford either to buy or rent.

This Inter-grated development will go a long way in addressing socio-economic issues that affect youth unemployment, crime, shack farming among others. It’s a development that will have recreational facilities, a school and hopefully the ANC will lobby for a health facility to be part of it.This ward is run by the DA and there’s never been electricity in the area, it was disconnected and illegal connection, “izinyoka” is the order of the day, which put residents lives at risk as live wires cross the road to illegal connect to houses. It is so rampant that you find young men doing this daylight, especially now when the country is facing load shedding.

As the ANC Zonal leadership, we’ve engaged the MMC Matshidiso Mfikoe to move with speed in bringing amenities in the area while the permanent project is being built. As a result of our intervention, very soon the transit area will be electrified.

We have also arranged a Career day in ward 83, where we had various speakers from the education department and MEC’s office to address the issues of education.

City of Johannesburg Health Projects for 2015/16 financial year:

Florida Clinic (demolition of old clinic – house – and construction of new clinic that would consist of approximately 18 consultation rooms) (Large Clinic)

Zandspruit Clinic (acquisition of land and construction of new clinic that would consist of approximately 18 consultation rooms)  (Large Clinic)

Gauteng Provincial Health Projects:

Discoverers District Hospital (conversion of Community Health Centre(CHC) to District Hospital)

Bramfischerville Community Health Centre (CHC)

Cosmo City Community Health Centre (CHC)

We believe as the ruling political party in a democratic state that all the people of SA, black and white deserve decent living standards and that government must deliver to them without discriminating which political party or affiliation these belong to and this is exactly what’s happening on Princess.
