Maragon pupil shines in Glasgow

RUIMSIG — Pupil's dancing acheivements earn her international fame.

Grade 10 pupil at Maragon Private School in Ruimsig, Courtney Minnaar recently made her school and country proud at the 2015 Scottish Dancer of the Year championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Minnaar received second place in freestyle slow and third place in solo U16 girls’ champions categories.

The 16-year-old’s mother, Cecillia Minnaar said the young dancer is a very hard worker and always manages to work around her tight schedule.

“I am a very proud mother,” she said. “Courtney works so hard. I would love for her to work hard and study for a degree and continue dancing.”

The dancer has also been added to the Sparkling Design Team in England and they will sponsor all her freestyle dancing costumes.

Courtney chirped, “I am just really happy to have made it that far. It was a lot of hard work but I am grateful for the opportunity and I am excited about next year’s competition.”

Minnaar has been dancing since 2008 and dances every week in between her academics. She also competed in the World Freestyle Championships in Blackpool England from 27 to 28 June, where she achieved second place in freestyle slow and a fourth place in the premier championship solo.
