Child rapist gets 118 years jail time

A child rapist who lured children under the guise of being a dance instructor, received three life sentences plus 43 years, announced Roodepoort Police on Tuesday.

Thanduxolo Maphela of Matholesville was 26 years at the time when he committed the offences.

After dance practices he would invite one or two children to go with him to a big professional dance show. He would use this excuse with the parents and then board a train with the children. Once he got to Newclare Station they would get off and Maphela would talk on his cell phone in hearing distance of the children pretending he is being informed the show has been cancelled. He would then take them to a shack nearby and rape them.

Eight children, between the ages of 10 and 13 came forward in September 2013 and opened cases.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo applauded the investigating team’s investigating skills that led to the successful conviction.
