Poorte humbled at home

Poorte first team coach Brian Armitage said his team’s performance was an improvement despite the loss.

Victorious in defeat were the sentiments coming from the Roodepoort Rugby Club (Poorte) after they hosted North West University (Pukke) this weekend.

Poorte’s first team gave Pukke a run for their money but their bravery was not enough as they lost 24-34.

The visitors scored four tries while Poorte’s Wesley Pretorious scored two tries and Wesley Delport scored one try.

“This was a better performance from the team against a tough opponent even though we lost. Our scrum did a fantastic job today and we managed to score three tries from the little ball possession we had. However, I was not happy with the turnovers we conceded and we gave away soft tries,” he said.

In earlier games, Poorte’s second team lost 6-17 and the third team lost 0-21. The U/21 team lost 7-102 and the U/19 team lost 0-45.
