#MadibaHugs handed out for Mandela Day

The world needs more random acts of kindness.

A local marketing company put a twist on the usual Mandela Day-happenings by handing out #MadibaHugs at a supermarket and various small businesses.

ATKA SA Cross Channel Marketing Specialists staff welcomed shoppers to the Pick n Pay in CR Swart Avenue with a large banner and a big bear hug. They argued Madiba never hesitated to share a hug and it symbolises everything he stood for.

“It offered the recipient a true taste of reconciliation and inspired forgiveness,” chief content manager Tihan van der Walt said.

“Seeing people walk toward us with neutral or aggrieved facial expressions and leaving with a smile was the highlight of this entire exercise,” he said.

“Giving back can be any deed,” account manager Bianca Booysen said.

The group of friendly huggers ended their initiative off by tweeting photos of their hugs at a rate of one photo per minute for 67 minutes.
