Get your dog vaccinated against Rabies

Prevent your pets from being infected with this deadly disease by getting them vaccinated for free this Thursday.

A special rabies vaccination programme will be held on Thursday by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to raise awareness about this deadly disease.

The decision stems from an incident where a stray dog was found about two months ago at a dump site in Krugersdorp and diagnosed with Rabies.

Rabies is a contagious disease that is transmissible through the saliva of dogs and cats.

The vaccination will take place for free at Culembeeck Primary School and Hoërskool Bastion.

All dogs and cats over the age of three months who have not received a vaccination this year are expected to be vaccinated.

“On Thursday veterinary doctors will attend to all pets,” Henry Bentley from Environmental Health said.

If anyone has come into contact with a dog who has Rabies, Henry warns them to visit their nearest doctor immediately.

“The further from the brain you are bitten, the longer you have to get to the doctor. If you are bitten or licked on your face then it is extremely dangerous,” Henry cautioned.

The vaccination will start from 10am until 5pm.
