Floroma pensioners prepared to vote in 2016

Councilor, member of parliament hear the woes of a local old age home.

Their votes are key in changing the government of the City of Johannesburg municipality, pensioners at Floroma Old Age Home heard on Thursday morning (16 July).

Ward 84 councillor Marian Kemp and DA member of parliament Anchen Dreyer visited the home on Thursday morning to afford them opportunity to raise concerns about the neighbourhood.

On behalf of the home, Yolanda Fouché raised concerns including the fact that their residents are not exempt from municipal charges and the great disparity between subsidies awarded to similar organisations by the state.

While there, Dreyer addressed attendees about the forthcoming municipal elections in 2016 and what it could mean in terms of service delivery to them.

“It doesn’t have to be like this; there’s corruption from top levels in government all the way down, you’re constantly battling to work around load shedding and you have a ton of other municipal issues that desperately need attention,” Dreyer said.

“Businesses want to invest where there’s good governance.”

Promises were made to help pensioners check the status of their registrations to vote in the following elections in the next few months.
