Police clamp down on robberies

MULDERSDRIFT — Group of detectives react swiftly to arrest business robbers.

A team of detectives from Muldersdrift Police reacted to a suspected business burglary and robbery on 14 July.

At around 1am, four police officers arrested two men for possession of goods suspected to be stolen during a business burglary and robbery. At around 8am on the same day, another person was apprehended for the same robbery.

“[All the] suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon. We appreciate the good work carried out by the members of the police that reacted so swiftly to the crime. The suspects are between 23 and 35 years old,” said Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya.

Meanwhile, on 11 July seven suspects allegedly forcibly broke into a house in the area while the owner was still at home. According to WO Ngwenya, they forced the door open and pointed a firearm at the victim.

“The rest of the suspects proceeded to search the house. They took his money and cellphone and ordered him to show them where the furniture was kept,” Ngwenya continued.

Three people were arrested and found in possession of boxes containing coffee tables. They are facing charges of possession of stolen goods, housebreaking and robbery.

“We are appealing to members of the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the successful arrest of the remaining four suspects,” WO Ngweynya concluded.
