Hit and run victim speaks out

Woman drives off after man is injured.

The lack of respect for traffic laws and absence of road calming measures in Davidsonville has come under the spotlight after local rapper, Dale-Lin Fritz was injured in a ‘hit and run’.

On 30 June Fritz was walking on Manuel Street to visit his girlfriend. He came across her father who was on the opposite side of the street. Fritz wanted to cross the road and first checked in the customary fashion for oncoming vehicles but as he started crossing was hit by a vehicle. He was thrown through the air by the impact which left the vehicle with a cracked windshield.

The woman in the vehicle stopped a few metres away but did not get out of her car. Dazed Fritz tried to get up to ask her if she was alright but concerned bystanders prevented him. The next moment the woman pulled off without enquiring about his injuries. Fritz managed to memorise the vehicle’s registration.

He was taken to Krugersdorp Private Hospital where it was established he injured his hip and hand, fractured a bone and would need facial surgery. A case was also opened with the police.

According to Fritz the police asked him to come in on Monday with his JT88 form (a document that is filled in by a doctor to detail the extent of a victim’s injuries) as well as witnesses. The woman has been located in the meanwhile.

“I want people to be aware of how dangerous the behaviour of both drivers and pedestrians in Davidsonville are. Pedestrians walk in the road without regard for their own safety. This teaches a bad example to children who are also often seen in the streets. The drivers in Davidsonville also tends to speed and ignore stop streets. The authorities need to do something fast or people will die,” said Fritz.
