There is a lot to look forward to from 17 – 19 July at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, as WODAC (World of Dogs and Cats) celebrates 20 years. Brian Blades opened the press conference by explaining that the WODAC event came about to introduce people what buying a dog entails – its care, feeding, vets bills and exercise requirements. It has grown to such an extent that WODAC now also supports a number of welfare organisations – many of which will be present on the day.
A turnout of about 22 000 people is expected over the weekend for the animal show and there are a number of exciting items to look forward to.
Highlights include:
- Beth Babbin’s Dogs of the World parade on 18 July at 1pm. Handlers will wear the traditional dress of the dog’s country of origin and is not to be missed.
- Casper de Vries was available to talk about the Celebrity Welfare Challenge on 19 July at 10am. Celebrities will be paired up with well-trained agility dogs and they will take them round a course. Complete Pet Food will sponsor this event. Members of the public can donate R10 or more and receive a bag of pet food, which they can either donate or keep. All the money made from the celebrity challenge will be evenly distributed among animal welfare organisations. WODAC will match every rand raised by this collection.
- The Magic of Horses will be held throughout the three-day event. Four breeds of horses will be available for people to touch and interact with. This year children, who have never had a horse riding experience, can sign up and ride a horse.
- The Singing Cowboy, who does dressage work with his horse while he sings, will also return.
- Miss Ronnie Magic and her rescue dogs will be available to perform their variety of tricks.
