Self-image and manhood celebrated at library

In celebration of Father's Day, the Roodepoort Library and guest speakers educated young boys about manhood.

Roodepoort Library in conjunction with Tulip Combined School had a one of a kind Father’s Day celebration last Friday, 19 June.

The purpose of the event was to have men address boys in matters of crime, gangsterism and drugs.

The event was held at Tulip Combined School in Van Wyk Street and the hall was filled to capacity with male pupils and men from all walks of life. Speakers from Fear Free Life and the Davidsonville True Man Forum warned the boys about drugs, alcohol, violence and drug use, specifically nyaope, a white powdery street drug unique to South Africa. The guest of honour who graced the event was Dr Ezekiel Mathole from Grace Bible Church and Pastor Edward Ikeomu, who is also an author.

The most significant part was the message by Dr Ezekiel Mathole, who highlighted the essence of being an African boy, encouraging boys to be proud of who they are and stay focused on their studies.

Every young boy was given the chance to stand up and give a positive statement about his life and home situation.

In terms of entertainment, pupils and attendees were graced by Moglangeni Performers and the Tulip Dancers.
