Ignite Africa ignites warmth

WELTEVREDEN PARK – A non-profit organisation brought warmth into the lives of children at the Ikholwa Children's Home.

Following the cold winter days, Ignite Africa, a non-profit organisation (NPO), took it upon themselves to donate blankets to those in need. They started collecting blankets at the beginning of June and did their official handover of the blankets on 20 June to the Ikholwa Children’s Home in Weltevreden Park. “I feel so glad, this means a lot to us and we just feel blessed because the children will be warm this winter – they don’t have parents and to see people doing this for them is such a blessing,” said Ikholwa Children’s Home housemother Zandile Mathebula.

The NPO collected more than a 180 blankets.

“We’re changing a lot of people’s lives and that is what matters. It’s just so heart-warming to see people happy for the simple pleasure of being able to feel warm, which many of us may take for granted,” added Mushamiri.

He further explained the organisation’s reason for donating to Ikholwa House was because the home wants to give hope of an improved life to abandoned and orphaned children who have been infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The organisation also donated to two charities in Zimbabwe on 20 June. “The organisation hopes to make the blanket drive an annual event following the success of this one,” said the founder of Ignite Africa, Martin Mushamiri.

Marketing director of Ignite Africa Sipho Matshazi said that it was really an emotional experience seeing the children and what they had to overcome in their lives, yet they still have a smile on their face and love in their hearts. “This is in a great part due to the love and dedication of their caregivers, I take my hat off to them!” added Matshazi.
