How does the ANC view governance in Roodepoort?

Leading up to the 2016 election, the ANC has the opportunity to air their views on governance in Roodepoort.

The ANC in Greater Johannesburg Region is delighted to have an opportunity to engage with the communities based in the Roodepoort area through the Roodepoort Record.

We understand the plight of our residents residing in Roodepoort area. The ANC has over a period of more than 20 years transformed governance, learnt invaluable lessons on how to lead, manage and guide governance. The ANC has a caucus system and the whippery that have evolved over time to ensure party political discipline. In the Roodepoort area we have deployed various coucillors to assist the ANC in DA run wards. The following leaders, development planning MMC’ s Ross Greeff, who resides in the area, Transport MMC Christine Walters, responsible for service delivery related issues, and Health and Social Development MMC Nonceba Molwele have been deployed in Roodepoort. Wehave also chairperson of Economic Development Cllr Willie Van Der Schyf who’s the former mayor of the then Roodepoort Council as well as Ward 127 Cllr Sabelo Ncana.

We are mindful that failure to manage Governance processes properly cause paralysis and tension on both the party and government, ultimately this impacts negatively on service delivery. The ANC public representatives are beginning to appreciate that good governance and oversight must be at the core of our collective responsibility.

As the ANC in Roodepoort, in January this year, we embarked on service delivery issues in Davidsonville and held a public gathering with over 1000 members attending. In February, we convened a Service Delivery Summit held at Princess High School. The Zonal Anc Leadership, called government to come listen to the people where the Mayor of COJ came with his MMCs and took questions from the community. The ANC has also intervened in resolving the backlash of nation building at Roodepoort Primary which threatened non-racialism as advocated by the constitution.

In terms of social cohesion, the ANC also held a meeting with interfaith organizations and foreign national organizations which culminated into an anti xenophobia march held in Ruimsig and got an overwhelming support in the area. We are urging all sectors of society to be involved in nation building. In July we are having the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Hon Fatimah Cohen addressing foreign nationals organization, religious formations, NGOs, business in a breakfast.

As the ANC we will continue to serve our residents as best as possible, we will improve our visibility in the Roodepoort area, ensure we respond to the issues raised by residents even in DA run wards, we will be accessible through our branch meetings, Zonal meetings, council related public meetings, PCO where we have national MPs, MPLs and Councillors who are tasked with servicing the communities and on our very active social media platforms on twitter and Facebook.
