Fire leaves two injured and one dead

ROODEPOORT - A child was left dead following a fire in a block of flats in Roodepoort.

A child, believed to be aged between 6 and 9 years was killed last night and two adults injured when a fire broke out at a flat on the corners of Main and 13th Road in Roodepoort.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring their paramedics, along with fire services, arrived on scene and found the small flat ablaze. “Two adult patients were found outside the house. Both patients had sustained mild smoke inhalation,” explained Meiring.

He added that fire services began to fight the blaze while paramedics attended to a young child that was also found on scene. “Unfortunately the child had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene,” said Meiring.

Both patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to Helen Joseph Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The cause of the incident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
