Update: Fire claims child’s life

A child died during the blazing fire a building.

A four-year-old child was killed last night and two others were injured when a fire broke out at a flat at the corners of Main and 13th Road in Newlands.

ER24 and Netcare 911 paramedics along with fire services swiftly arrived on scene and found a section of the building was on fire.

Members from the Roodepoort, Brixton and Rosepark Fire Departments immediately started fighting the blazing fire.

Paramedics attended to the child that was also found on scene but he had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.

The emergency services members immediately started treating numerous people for smoke inhalation.

After assessing all the residents, paramedics found that two people were in a serious condition.

The patients received treatment at the scene and transported to Helen Joseph Hospital.

The cause of the incident is not yet known but investigations are currently underway.
