Update: Shot twice, but policeman persisted

The Record will follow up when the identity of the officer is released.

A trusted source told the Record the gunned-down officer was “one of those fearless policemen” and had in fact placed himself on duty before shots were fired.

Yesterday (Monday 22 June) the officer was killed in the line of duty when he was confronted by alleged thieves that attempted to hijack his vehicle. The policeman, believed to be in his 40s, was at home and washing his vehicle when they confronted him.

“He identified himself as a police officer when they tried to hijack his vehicle in his yard, after which the chase ensued,” the source said.

The officer was shot twice; once in the back with the bullet exiting near his heart and a second time in the side of his torso of which the bullet exited near his stomach. Still, the policeman persisted and shot at the suspects. Allegedly his state firearm was stolen from the scene, but this has not yet been confirmed with Florida Police.
