Suspects detained for dealing in dagga

HONEYDEW – Two suspects were arrested for possession of R 2500 worth of dagga on 20 June in Honeydew.

Two male suspects between the ages of 18 and 22 were arrested by Honeydew Police on 20 June on Olievenhout Avenue in North Riding.

“The suspects were seen emerging from one of the plots on Olievenhout. It was later found that were in possession of dagga,” confirmed Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs. She added that the arrest was made at around 2pm.

According to SOS Protec Sure operations manager Richard Saville, who was also on scene, SOS K9 unit noticed suspicious activities on Olievenhout and then approached the suspects. “On further investigation by the police it was found that the suspects were dealing in illegal substances. The suspects started running and SOS K9 unit gave chase,” said Saville.

He added that after a short chase on foot through a wooded area, an arrest was made. According to him, the suspect was found in possession of dagga with a street value of about R2 500.

The suspects will appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court later this week.
