Should penis enlargement ads be aborted?

Community stiffly opposed to posters.

“The unsavoury posters about penis enlargements and illegal abortions are scarring my children and I do not want them exposed to it any longer,” said an upset father who asked to remain anonymous.

Some of the posters that promise successful abortions have resulted in children asking parents uncomfortable questions.

According to the parent, the posters are everywhere and nobody is doing anything about it.

The Record found some of the illegal posters in front of a local Primary School.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the JRA (Johannesburg Road Agency) has the equipment to remove the posters. “It is difficult to track down the perpetratrors as they work through third parties. We have found when we remove posters in one area, more posters get put up in another area because it is a money-making business,” Minnaar said.

Minnaar added if you are caught putting up the posters, you will be found guilty of malicious damage to property and be fined R1 000 per poster.

So what are the required procedures for putting up posters legally?

Ward 85 councillor Carl Mann said it requires a lot of documentation and time. “You need to approach the JMPD and get application forms. You also need a letter from a councillor granting you permission and residents in your community should say agree with your banner or poster that advertises your company.”

He added the cost will depend entirely on the size of the advertisement.
