Pupils get a glimpse of the newsroom

RUIMSIG — Pupils step behind the scenes at university radio station during a workshop.

Maragon pupils recently took a practical approach to learning with a visit to Monash South Africa in Ruimsig.

The high school pupils geared up for their workshop on video editing and broadcast journalism, including a campus tour by lecturer Marius Bester, on the day.

“We got the opportunity to create a video and that was edited and learned how to add a background to replace the green screen. It was really great,” said Grade 11 pupil, Hanli Kruger.

During the workshop the guests of honour were interviewed on everything and anything, from their most embarrassing moments to who they would love to be for a day.

To get a real life experience of the broadcast world, they learned how the campus radio station, MoRadio, operates and took part in making their own mock bulletins.

Two pupils, Morgan Crawford and Nkoka Mapophe had the real life experience of reading the news bulletin live on air. Now that is worth remembering!
