Smash and grab victim speaks out

Latest smash and grab victim speaks out

Angela Nicole Haytread has become the latest victim in a smash and grab incident which occurred on the Christiaan de Wet and Wilgerood Road intersection this week.

“I was driving along Christiaan de Wet Road at about 5.30pm on Wednesday evening. It was normal traffic and it was quite dark in between the mountains,” said Haytread.

It was at this point she saw a man walking towards the cars in traffic but thought nothing of it.

“All of a sudden, I saw a guy walking towards the cars in traffic and I thought he was going to cross the road. The guy stopped close to my car and he smashed the passenger window,” she said.

Due to the shock, Haytread could only fear for her safety and did not think about what was taken at the time.

“As soon as I heard the smash, my jacket and other things were already gone. I just saw the man running into the bushes,” she said.

ER24 paramedics who had witnessed the incident went to assist Haytread and remained with her until help arrived.

ER24 and A1 Assist were there with me and tried to calm me down.

I had small cuts on the hands from the glass and a lot of shock but no injuries,” she said.
