ROODEPOORT – Upcoming production 'Once upon a song' seeks to bring a modern spin on a classic fairy-tale.

A modern take on Cinderella entitled Once Upon a Song is set to showcase at the Roodepoort Theatre on 19 to 21 August.

The production will be a contemporary take on a famous and well-known Cinderella-cliché story.

The production background is based on the major motion picture from Warner Premier and Disney and will be performed for the first time in South Africa on stage.

Director of Once Upon a Song Nicho Barnard was extremely pleased to be able to bring this production to the local stage. “It is a tremendous opportunity to be able to showcase this production at the Roodepoort Theatre. The production is shaping up to be quite the show and will no doubt entertain young and old,” he said.

Barnard explained that this production seeks to give up-and-coming talent a platform to break into the South African theatre. “I am very proud to be able to produce a show that will enable local talent to thrive in the industry,” he said.

He also pointed out that the support received from the Roodepoort Theatre has been nothing less than amazing. “We are very thankful toward Roodepoort Theatre to showcase this production. The theatre itself is a wonderful space that will add value to the already awesome show,” he said.

The principal cast will include Chenell Grimsell, Eben Wrogemann, Kay Dewes, Riandi Malan, Henro Heyl, Rachelle Weiss, Nicho Barnard, Ines Duffey, and Rico Africa.

The production is also set to show at the Joburg Theatre from 30 September to 2 October.
