RANDPARK RIDGE – Rand Park High U17A netball girls whip the challenging schools in the Jomo Netball Championships at Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig.

A resounding success for the U17A Netball team of Rand Park High as they win the Jomo Netball Championships on 5 and 6 June.

The event took place at Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig.

Schools from all over Joburg that qualified for the championships arrived in their numbers.

”It was a daunting task for the Rand Park High U17A team as their qualification took them by surprise,” said coach Ros Stansell.

The matches on 5 June were interesting as they had a large 18–6 win against Hoërskool Bastion.

Later that day the team had a narrow defeat against Krugersdorp High with 12–13.

The next day’s match on 6 June brought tons of success, beating Randfontein High School with 15–3 and Florida Hoërskool in a final score of 11–7.

Stansell and Sam Hancock, who have coached the team for several years and thoroughly enjoyed working with them this season said, “We are really proud of our young ladies.”

The coaches further added, “The girls have worked hard by attending practice sessions four days a week and have learned how to work effectively as a united team.”

In the final match of the day, Rand Park High School played Queens High School.

This, to the coaches and the players, was seen to be the most difficult match as the Queens High School team had remained undefeated for the entire netball season.

“We were really nervous but so excited to play such a strong team, we had our work cut out for us, but in the end we worked as a team and won,” said the team.

Rand Park High School U17A gained a tremendous win of 13–5.

According to Stansell ,”It was through determination, pace and a skilful approach to each game which took us to the win.”
