A Miss Earth semi-finalist with a purpose

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Miss Earth semi-finalist is all about making a difference in the community.

Nomazwi Majola (22) is a Miss Earth semi-finalist who is full of ambition. Majola entered Miss Earth in the first week of April after conducting some extensive research on how the pageant can help her achieve her goals of reaching out to the community and making a difference. “I wanted a platform where I could do what made me happy and now I have it, I am going to make a difference, I am not just going to be an oxygen thief,” said Majola.

She was a Bachelor of Social Sciences student at Monash University South Africa and finished her high school career at Rand Park High School. In her second year at university, she had to abandon her studies due to financial problems. This, however, did not get her down – she is still pushing toward having her very own non-profit organisation. When she was at university she started her own support group called Gender Forum. She explained that this group was open to everyone who needed to talk or needed that extra bit of help with something that they have been going through.

Majola said that it was important for people to remember that Miss Earth is not just about being a tree hugger, but rather it is a platform that has enabled so many young women to make a difference in the country and encourage the future leaders of the country.

“My greatest fear in life is not to live life up to my full potential,” added Majola. Her advice to young woman who are afraid of rejection and do not want to take that leap of faith is, “Just do whatever it is you are afraid to do because through rejection comes [a] better and a stronger, more determined person.”
