39 arrested in Roodepoort stop-and-search op

They were charged and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station and the rest will appear in court soon.

Twenty-one of 39 suspects arrested during the weekend have already appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court according to Roodepoort Police.

A stop-and-searched operation in the Roodepoort precinct proved successful last weekend, spokesperson Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo said. Various suspects were arrested for common assault, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of illegal firearms, possession of counterfeit money, being involved in armed robberies, shoplifting and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Drugs to the value of at least R16 500 were also confiscated during the operation, Khumalo said. This included a gram of methcathinone (street name ‘cat’) worth R200, 65 cartons of Remington cigarettes worth R15 260, 10 cartons of Pacific, Mega Blue and Seville cigarettes and 33 cartons of Dullas cigarettes.
