Daycare celebrates child protection week

These brave young children made their mark by showing support for children who have been victims of abuse.

“It is important to protect children against crime and abuse,” says Yvonne Rorke, principle of Stepping Stone’s Daycare and Pre-School in Discovery.

The daycare centre celebrated Child Protection Week by letting go of green-helium balloons into the air to honour all children who have been victims of sexual, physical, psychological and emotional abuse. The initiative is also to raise awareness about the rights of children.

The green ribbon shows support for the protection of children’s rights and it symbolises life and growth.

The pupils stood with green and white helium balloons in their hand as they waited patiently for the word “go” so that they could release the balloons into the air.

Messages such as “Do not talk to strangers” and “Do not accept sweets from strangers” were inside the balloons.

Four-year-old Wandile Ndhlovu said she was very happy to celebrate the day with her classmates.
